WHAT IS RIVERBEND LADIES’ TEAM?

Our affiliate organization the GSWPGA (Greater Seattle Women’s Public Golf Association) promotes competitive Ladies’ golf in the Seattle area.  There are 15 member clubs and 9 matches that take place during the active season.  The RLGA has had the opportunity to take part in Team competition for many years.

There are several “Myths” about team which need to be addressed:

Myth:  You need to be a low handicap player to join Team:  This is false.  We take handicaps of all levels.  We have 3 brackets, low – medium – high.  Each bracket plays with appropriate level handicap players.  Every match, the Team Captain chooses the 6 lowest handicap players available from those who have signed up to play.

Myth:   The Team is very competitive:  This is not true.  The competition level is very friendly.  Everyone is here to have fun and to meet new friends and form relationships.  There are women of all ages who play team and it’s a fun and supportive environment.

Myth:  You have to learn complicated scoring with 4-ball match play. This is false.     You will learn the scoring and it’s not difficult.  The first time out you will be paired with 3 others who know how to keep score and will gladly explain it to you.  You do not need to be a math wizard to learn how to score.  Plus you can impress your friends with your knowledge of 4-ball match play scoring and your experience playing a new format.

Our first match will be held April 28th at West Seattle Golf Course.  I hope I have encouraged those of you who are interested in Team but just haven’t done it, and those of you who have not heard much about it yet.

If you would like to play team, please put your name on the sign-up sheet on the Ladies’ bulletin board down at the Pro Shop.  If you won’t be down there, you can call or email me with your request to play in a match.  There is a schedule of all the matches on our website and down at the Pro Shop.  I look forward to seeing many of you out there this year for Team.

Thank you and let’s play some golf!
